SilverBeast Posted July 18, 2015 Report Posted July 18, 2015 What year/engine do you have? petrol/diesel Worth adding to your registered details and to you "signature" that appears at the bottom of all your posts. There is a common problem with a relay that gets dry joints. This allows the engine to turn over but not start. On the MKII diesels (which I have), if there is an immobiliser issue it will fire up and run for around a second an then cut out, I wouldn't try and bypass the immobiliser as it isn't simple and I doubt that that is the issue itself. SilverBeast Posted July 18, 2015 Report Posted July 18, 2015 Sorry - reread title and not just post. So it's a diesel. - DUH If you get a VAG-COM/VCDS-LITE lead from ebay (<£10) then you will be able to read all the electrical systems for faults, which may help. It doesn't find the relay issue I mentioned above though. See here for relay details Quote
poumaret Posted July 18, 2015 Author Report Posted July 18, 2015 thankyou for the replys I will check the relays sorry forgot to say its a 1998 1.9 diesel Quote
Nacyl Posted August 1, 2015 Report Posted August 1, 2015 Hi poumaret, Didi you recently replacer your key batteries ? As silly as this question seems to be, you have a tiny transponder inside the key that will prevent your engine to start if not present. Loosing it is quite easy to do ! I would first check that first. Quote
seatkid Posted August 1, 2015 Report Posted August 1, 2015 Yes, has the key been opened as Nacyl says the transponder chip falls out quite easily. If you have a spare key try that. Quote
poumaret Posted August 2, 2015 Author Report Posted August 2, 2015 ups sorry forgot to update. when I finally got to relay 109 I put my finger on it turned on ignition felt it click when tried to start it clicked again so disconnected the battery got a new 109 for an audi/ vw fitted it connected the battery and it started so tried the old one to check what happens and it started, needless to say I put the new one in no problem since. whether original 109 acting up or immobilizer reset after battery being disconnected for 2 days don't know but ok now thanks for the help. BrianH Posted August 2, 2015 Report Posted August 2, 2015 if you pull apart the old relay if you still have it you may be able to see the fault - the joints go dry (will appear broken apart/cracked or crazed). It will be the relay as that is a common fault on the Galaxies anyway. Quote
